Aphesis Lane is a powerful and influential cult, that uses Aggle Inc as a front. They are introduced in Death end re;Quest and are also featured in Death end re;Quest: Code Z as a plot point.
Death end re;Quest[]
Aphesis Lane is an old, powerful cult that uses the tech company Aggle as a front. Most of their members wear black hooded jackets with rabbit ears, red armbands that feature a white rabbit symbol, and white rabbit shaped masks similar to the White Rabbit VR Headsets that World's Odyssey uses.
As a result of Aggle gaining a monopoly on most of Japan's technology, they have extensive knowledge about technology and software, developing the Alice Engine used by Enigma Games in World's Odyssey, and the Ludens which are said to be fully sentient and self aware AI. To accomplish this feat, they kidnapped thousands of individuals, taking advantage of the "unused" portions of their brain functions to power a computer network capable of creating a Luden. To utilize outside expertise without alerting others to their actions, Aphesis billed the network as the "Alice Engine", a game engine capable of highly-advanced artificial intelligence.
They also created the Proto-Luden named Iris, who is very fond of Shina Ninomiya. After Iris loses control following Shina's death at the hands of Aphesis, The Ludens (Alice, Nova, Levin) are created and they create a "firewall" that prevents them from accessing W.O.D. At some point, she is emailed to Arata by Shina, who was revived as a game character by the other Ludens. After they find out Shina has been resurrected inside of W.O.D, they attempt to make Arata and his party give up the location of Iris, attempting (and at one point succeeding) to kidnap him and the rest of Enigma Games, as well as trying to lure Arata to their headquarters.
Victor Tailman is at the head of Aphesis Lane, he is a dangerous person who stops at nothing in his attempts to get Iris in his possession. He is the rival to Werner Glock, with whom he shares a long history with. When he possesses the NPC Rook and tries to kill Shina, the Ludens appear to kill him, all the while boasting about how Shina could not possibly hope to defeat Heaven's Messenger.
After Arata enters Aphesis' secret laboratory under Aggle's headquarters, he encounters the Aphesis Guru, a being housed inside of the supercomputer powered by the 10,000 people Aphesis has kidnapped. The Aphesis Guru reveals to Arata that Shina was killed 6 months prior, and attempts to recruit Arata, who refuses and escapes from the laboratory and Aggle HQ. It is speculated that the Aphesis Guru is actually the true form of Victor Tailman.
