Death end re;Quest Wiki

Buggy are bug-themed AI that attach themselves to an Adept, granting them certain abilities. They were introduced in Death end re;Quest, and reapppear in Death end re;Quest 2 and Death end re;Quest: Code Z.

Buggies, when latched onto a host, suppresses one of their emotions which makes them wholly incapable of experiencing that emotion. This is revealed to be caused by the Buggies themselves feeding on the suppressed emotion.

Death end re;Quest[]

Shina first encounters her own buggy after puking it out during the prologue in Heartis Palace, where it eats a Martyr to help Shina escape. Buggy's allow their hosts to utilize "Glitch Mode", a powered up state where the user's abilities are greatly enhanced. Glitch Mode is denoted by the character's lack of clothing, with certain patterns obscuring only their breasts and genitalia.

While traveling through the Heartis Palace, Shina encounters Lily Hopes, the Princess of Heartis. Shina notices she too has one of these ''creatures'' and in that moment she dubs them "Buggies", most likely due to the insect-like appearance of the Buggies.

When Lily and Shina defeat the first Entoma Queen, they notice a floating object that looks like a light. Before Arata can investigate it, Shina's Buggy consumes the object, which causes Shina to experience intense pain. When Shina's Buggy consumes a floating object left behind from a defeated Entoma Queen, Shina experiences extreme pain while also having part of her memories restored. While the Buggies of the others are shown also consuming Entoma Queens and other Martyrs, they do not experience any adverse side effects or seem to end up recalling any of their memories prior to entering the game.

In chapter 6, Lily is sent into a rage after witnessing Chief Knight Gilsura's death. Following this, her buggy begins talking and gloating about how it fed on Lily's anger, suppressing it. This results in Lily's character sequence breaking down, and makes her attack the party while entering Glitch Mode, requiring the party to subdue Lily. Once Lily regains her senses, she beats the buggy into restoring her ability to feel anger. Similar events take place in the following chapters, with Al Astra, Lucil Filarete, and Celica Clayton, who've had their sadness, joy and despair suppressed respectively. Clea Glaive, who has had her courage suppressed, is not fought within the main story. Instead, after realizing her courage was suppressed she enters Glitch Mode to face down Celica who tries to kill the party after reaching Odyssia in Chapter 10.

Although Clea Glaive in her Glitch Mode is not fought within the story, an Entoma disguised as a mirror takes on the form of Clea Glaive in her Glitch Mode in the Godot Ruins, the Phantom Abyss DLC.

Death end re;Quest 2[]

While this game does not go in depth about the buggies, Mai, Rotten and Liliana all have one.

Mai first encounters her own buggy in chapter 1 after defeating some enemies after searching for Vina Miles whom presumably got kidnapped by a Shadow Matter, she initially was kind of freaked out by it but decided to return to the Dormitory instead of engaging further. The next time she goes out she notices the buggy has followed her while traveling, Mai tries to shoo it away but the buggy proceeds to follow her and stick with her for the rest of the game. Once Rottie joins Mai while exploring Le Choara she notices she has a ''friendly monster'' too, Rotten comments it's the first time she has seen it and the buggy then proceeds to disappear. When they encounter Shina Ninomiya at her place in chapter 2 she notices that Mai and Rotten have buggies like herself, she explains that people who can see these creatures are called ''adepts'' and people who awaken as adepts are able to create a guardian spirit to protect them. They assume the form of that represents their host's form. After Liliana joins the party in chapter 3 it is quickly noticed that she has a buggy too.

Unlike in Death end re;Quest, these buggies do not seem to suppress any emotions and function differently.

Death end re;Quest: Code Z[]

SPOILER WARNING
Below this point are critical plot details for a game that
recently released in North America or Europe.

Currently not much is known about the involvement of buggies in the plot of Death end re;Quest: Code Z, but each returning character from the previous games do not have their buggies. which cna be assumed to be due to the Glitch Girls possibly being an incarnation of the stolen emotions of the Death end re;Ques party, possibly being the buggies themselves.

The protagonist Sayaka Hiwatari has a buggy of her own, being a Redback Spider. Sayaka does not utilize Glitch Mode, instead utilizing something known as "Vanquish Style". Vanquish Style appears to be similar in function to Glitch Mode, with one major difference being Sayaka's outfit changing instead of becoming almost naked.

Death end re;Quest 3[]

There is currently very little info about the actual game or the plot, though as it is a Death end re;Quest game, Buggies are likely to be featured in some capacity.
