Death end re;Quest 2 (デス エンド リクエスト2) is a role-playing game developed by Compile Heart and Idea Factory. It is the sequel to Death end re;Quest and the seventh game of Compile Heart's "Galapagos RPG" line of games.

The game takes place within the continuity of the first Death end re;Quest and follows protagonist Mai Toyama as she investigates the strange phenomena surrounding the European town of Le Choara.

The game released worldwide for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 in August 2020, and was ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2021 in Japan and 2022 in the west, another sequel ''Death end re;Quest 3'' (title tentative) will release later down the line too.

Gameplay

Death end re;Quest 2 features similar RPG gameplay to that of the first Death end re;Quest. All of the "Hacking" mechanics from the first game have been removed, and characters no longer die when their corruption reaches 100%. Returning characters get an extended list of moves of different elements to make them more viable.

The story is split into "day" and "night" segments. Day segments feature everyday life around Le Choara, and feature optional conversations with fellow dormmates. Night segments see players controlling Mai and her friends as they explore Le Choara and engage in standard turn-based battles.

Story

Prologue

Mai Toyama has an abusive relationship with her father. The only things that keep her going are the occasional text messages from her sister Sanae and a desire to visit Enigma Games after hacking into World's Odyssey long ago. Her drunken father decides to kill her on a whim, but she grabs his hatchet and kills him.

Chapter 1

Mai's discovers that her mother is dead, and decides to go looking for Sanae. At the advice of Julietta, she travels to the Wordsworth Dormitory in Le Choara. She encounters the bully Vina Miles. She learns that her roommate-to-be is Rotten Dollhart, daughter to Headmistress Midra.

Vina has to make a late night trip to the restroom, violating curfew. Suddenly, she encounters a monster, with Mai hearing her screams. Mai decides to break curfew herself and follow Vina. Le Choara appears to be a dark, monster-infested hell at night, with Mai somehow being able to battle them. The shadowy creature continued to pursue and torture Vina, with Mai decided to head back to the dorm in fear of the monster.

Vina survived the encounter, but was hysterical. The next night, Mai is dressed for sleep when she sees a hallucination of Vina being slammed against her window. She sneaks downstairs to see assistant maid Shizu Melonis dragging Vina off. She also finds a mysterious maid wielding a knife.

Mai heads outside the Dorm and, after battling monsters, finds Vina's corpse. Suddenly, she has a vision of having killed Vina with her bare hands.

Chapter 2

Mai is looking for more information, so she and Rottie travel to the old publisher district. She arrives at a seemingly-abandoned building where Rottie discovers a dusty laptop. They are suddenly ambushed by a monster, but the laptop activates and vaporizes it. The maid that Mai saw with the knife, Shina Ninomiya, arrives and tells her that the laptop is cursed. Shina takes the laptop with her.

The next night, Mai and Rottie decide to investigate the cursed laptop, traveling to Shina's house. When they arrive, the laptop activates. Mai deactivates the security by using an item precious to her: a USB drive with a tiny bit of data, used during a hack into Enigma Games' servers. She feels changes within her, one of which allows her to detect a monster lying in wait to ambush her. After disposing of the creature, Shina emerges and allows Mai to keep the laptop.

Chapter 3

Wordsworth gets introduced to two new students, Anne, Sarah and Liliana, Mai is tasked by Midra to show Liliana around the Dormitory. Mai and Liliana get along well which makes Rotten jealous sometimes.

Mai tries to figure out how to get further access to the laptop with a password, but Iris does not know it. Instead Iris has a map for Mai left behind by the previous owner ''Arata''. So Mai sets out with Rotten to find more clues surrounding Le Choara with the help of the map. Finally at the Mountain Path area she encounters another monster which she defeats, there is a crumpled piece of paper near the monster which Mai nor Rotten can read anything from.

The next morning Liliana visits Mai and Rotten's room to ask if she could accompany them, Mai first being reluctant decides Liliana can join her and Rotten. Later in the day Midra tells Liliana her, Anne and Sarah are going to the church to meet the Bishop. Mai expresses concern but Midra tells her that if everything goes well it should only take 3 days. While returning to their rooms, they notice by peeking out of the window that there is a fire near the church so Mai and Rotten quickly go outside to investigate.

After investigating the burning building, they notice the church is unnaturally quiet, they head inside and notice no ones there. They eventually notice Liliana hiding inside of the church, she tells Mai and Rotten that they were praying until monsters barged in and took Anne and Sarah to the forest. Without hesitation they all, including Liliana set out to find them.

They eventually find Anne and Sarah inside of a shed with a giant monster called the ''Kidnapper'' who supposedly has taken them there. Eventually the Kidnapper notices the party and attacks them. After defeating the Kidnapper the party heads inside to free Anne and Sarah, while going back to the Dormitory they run into Head Maid Shizu and Headmistress Midra who take Anne and Sarah back.

The next day Midra tells the students of Wordsworth that it was the work of a pervert that kidnapped Anne and Sarah, Mai finds it suspicious that she would lie about this, Midra even tried gaslighting Mai and Rotten saying their fear warped their perception of reality.

• Death end re;Quest 2's story is heavily-inspired by a manga titled Dolls Fall. Both Dolls Fall and Death end re;Quest 2 were written by Makoto Kedouin.
