History[]
Le Choara is a quiet town somewhere in eastern europe, Mai Toyama is initially taken to Le Choara after an incident with her father where Mai acted in self defense which resulted in her father's death. Julietta the social worker takes Mai to Le Choara to attend Wordsworth Dormitory.
Most people inside of Wordsworth believe in the faith of El Strain and it is the main religion inside of the town, although Mai and the party later find out it's actually a cult that praises an evil god, Marbas.
At night the town completely transforms and monsters roam the streets, Mai explores the town at night for various reasons depending on what her goal is for the night, in chapter 6 after she tries to escape town she realises there is no way out due to AR blocking every possible exit, a bunch of El Strain cultists come out of one side out of the wall and left an opening for the party, unfortunately they were too late and the wall closed up behind them.
Later in chapter 6, Mai hears from Shina after a text message from her colleague ''Sumika Tokiwa'' that Le Choara was supposedly deserted for a long time after a gas leak, Mai and the rest were in denial of this at first.
In chapter 7, Mai, Rotten, Liliana travel to the secret room in the tourist area as Liliana had overheard Midra and Shizu Melonis were going to purge Shina there as punishment for her going there despite being told not to. The trio see the group of hooded people carrying a bloody corpse bag out of the building then break into the building after they leave. Upon getting inside they find it covered in blood and as they freak out, Midra and Shizu arrive claiming they were worried about the trio and that a state of emergency had been made due to the bloody contents of the room. Rotten and Liliana apologize, however if Mai refuses to do so and directly asks Midra if she murdered Shina by choosing ''For the truth'' it'll trigger a Death End where Midra denies it and sends Rotten and Liliana away with Shizu. As they leave, the hooded group charge into the room and attack Mai, then tie her to the table. Midra tells her she has seen too much, just like Shina, and then leaves as the hooded figures hack Mai to death with axes.
Le Choara celebrates ''Carnival'' which is a festival for believers of El Strain, several stalls selling different goods are put up for Carnival, Rottie suggests to Mai and Liliana that they should volunteer to clean around the church to take a peak at the festival preperations. It is later learned by Mai through a memory of the past she got after defeating the Frenzied Midra Shadow Matter that during the carnival 30 years into the past Headmistress Midra slaughtered all of the children inside of Wordsworth Dormitory and then killed herself with a shotgun. Soon after this the ''augmented reality'' created by Julietta's curse lifts, Julietta later reveals in chapter 9 inside of the church that Le Choara and Wordsworth were long abandoned and Mai has been talking to herself in an empty room, reliving Wordsworth as it was in the year 1980 to 1989.
Mai later finds in chapter 9 while falling out of the church, into the shed and going down the stairs that under Le Choara that there is a hidden area called the ''Strain Area'', as explained by Arata Mizunashi thorugh a video message The Strain Area houses the memories of the town's master. Identical copies of each resident of Le Choara as puppets reside in the Strain Area. Mai later discovers Rottie as one of those puppets when she suddenly springs back to life. A few moments after Liliana wakes up around the area too.
