The Pain Area is a gauntlet of enemies and bosses with high level loot that appears in both Death end re;Quest and Death end re;Quest 2.
Death end re;Quest[]
The Pain Area can be accessed from the Strain Area where the Ludens reside in. After entering a floor or reaching the halfway point, the player can buy "keys" from Nova to enter the Pain Area from either point on any floor.
The Pain Area features up to 16 chambers per floor, with 5 floors in total. Enemies get tougher as the player progresses through the Pain Area, but are rewarded with large amounts of EXP and Eni. The final chamber of each Floor has the player fight one of the Entoma Queens the player previously faces prior to Chapter 5, with their stats scaled up.
The final boss of the Pain Area fought on Floor 5 is the Entoma Queen "Jeez". Defeating it grants an achievement/trophy, and allows the player to summon them in battle from that point on.
The track that plays is titled The Eternal Journey To Reality.
Death end re;Quest 2[]
The Pain Area can be accessed from the phone booth right outside of Wordsworth Dormitory. Mai, Rottie and Liliana are required to be in the party in order to enter. Unlike in Death End re;Quest, the Pain Area features save points that allow the player to save their progress after clearing a set amount of rooms. Entoma Queens are yet again featured as bosses, requiring the player to beat them in order to advance.
The player can also encounter Kajita Rosso in the Pain Area, a character that is a self insert of Mafia Kajitta a popular Japanese Voice/Television Actor. Mai and Rotten speak to him every so often while traversing the Pain Area.
The final boss of the Pain Area in this game is Ao Oni from the popular freeware horror series Ao Oni. Defeating them triggers an event which allows the player to leave after it is completed.
The track that plays here is The Eternal Journey To Reality. Which it shares with the first Death end re;Quest's Pain Area.
